About the Alliance
The Committee for Geelong commissioned initial research highlighting the important role ‘second cities’ play in economic and social prosperity. The Australia’s Gateways to Growth report published in 2019, resulted in the formation of the Gateway Cities Alliance with Newcastle, Wollongong and Geelong Councils as foundation members with the Committee for Geelong acting as Secretariat. The role these second cities, or ‘Gateway’ cities play in our national economy is the core focus for the Alliance, and informs our advocacy to the Federal Government in population planning.
